Nice week ahead!

Ok, so I am always talking about the weather, only shows what an old lady I am. Young people do not care about weather, lol. So we are going to have a week in the 60s, yea!!!!

My daughter Phyllis is in Denver so that her daughter will have company in the event her baby arrives! Better to be there than to be sorry, lol.

Still recovering from all the goodies at Christmas and received another box of candy this morning, SEEs Candy from California, a yum!

Every day since the 24th has seemed like Sunday and this next week will be the same with all the closures, etc. Gosh, I look forward to January 2nd.

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season. Talk with you later.

January is near!

We had a lovely Christmas, just us and son Stewart. Had lots of good food and enjoyed visiting. Many thanks to all our family for the many gifts and goodies, we appreciated them all.

We had a very nice weather day today, 62F and sunny with very little wind. Floyd and Stewart enjoyed a couple of beers on our front porch as it was warm and comfortable out there.

We sincerely hope that everyone had such a nice day, and can you believe that January is just next week?? WOW!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE FROM: Moni, Floyd, Casey, Duke and Baby.

That time of year!

Toy trains have always fascinated me. I wish I had one large room for electric train sets. I remember when I was a child in St. Louis and the old Famous-Barr store had a large window display of electric trains in a wonderful set with tunnels and bridges and mountains. It seems as if I could have looked at them all day.

I really haven't done my shopping this year. I will probably wait till Christmas eve. I just don't enjoy shopping, not since my children were young.

Normally, this time of year I am up to my elbows in cookies. This year I just can't get into it so Floyd passed out some little house plants to our neighbors with a card, pitiful. Some of my friends are a little under the weather and told Floyd not to expect Tamales this year. I understand completely. I know where to buy some good ones, lol.

The cookie baking will also be delayed, probably in a day or so when I can muster the NRG, lol. I love making cookies, but this year it hasn't seemed like fun. I think I am worried about my little granddaughter who is very pregnant. She lives in Denver with her guy, but no family around. I know her mom and dad will get there when the time comes, but I think she is anxious.

Two great grandbabies this year. Two boys, Austin and Owen. Life just keeps going on.:)

Oops!

Had a post all ready and then - poof!! I'm not sure what happened. I received an email from one of my classmates in Missouri and it was cold and snowy there with a temp of 13F, eek!

Watching the weather news on TV and it seems that everywhere from the Sierras to Albuquerque have snow and then the midwest too. We have no snow, 63F here, should reach 65F. Because of our elevation, 4335', it does get very cold at night. Just watching the videos of cars skidding off the roads on the ice, it just looks so scary. I can remember those days!

Floyd has been outside most of the day, listening to his radio and visiting with neighbors. He just loves being outdoors.

Not much new. I have leftovers for dinner tonight, so no cooking for me, lol. Need to get to the library tomorrow and return some books. Also, need to get to Walmart and do a little shopping.

Take care all. talk with you later.

Brrrrrr!

Winter nights and cool days! Oh well, it is that time of year. I like the Christmas decorations, they brighten my mood. I still haven't had to wear more than a sweater over my clothes. December is our coldest month. Lots of snow on our local mountains and also in the ski area to the north.

Floyd's Birthday

Tomorrow is my sweet hubby's birthday. He will be 80 years old. He looks great and is in good shape. We went to the market today and he picked out a cake that he liked. It is a pretty white torte cake with fresh strawberries and pineapple on top. It really looks yummy.

Cold weather has moved in. I think it only reached 57F today before a really strong wind brought a little rain and more cold weather. The northern part of NM has snow and will have more tomorrow. Of course, the skiers and snowboarders love it. Tomorrow should only reach 50F which is about as cold as it ever gets around here for a high. Lows in the 20s, brrrr.

I've been doing Christmas Cards. Still have a few to go, need addresses!

Hope everyone out there is staying warm. I try to stay inside and warm for most of the time. I don't like being cold.

Walmart sale!

I don't believe it, Walmart has our tv on sale for $498. Also, a 50"plazma for $798. They're practically giving them away. I want my money back so I can buy two of them, lol. Well, nobody else can compete with that. Our tv is a 42" Sanyo LCD and we love it, so I shouldn't complain. Never buy tvs any place else. Of course, I am a champion of Walmart, no matter who says what. If GM had run their business like Walmart, they wouldn't be in the mess they are today.

Sunny, cool day here. Our Christmas Light parade is tomorrow evening, and starts at the park down the street, so no excuse not to go. They have the usual bands, etc. and 28 floats, all lit up!

Guess I will have a spiral ham for Christmas, now for the sides, gotta work on that one. Hope all is well out there.

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Beautiful Day!

It was 73F today, with lots of sunshine. I understand the next week will be upper 60s with sunshine - a little coolish, but not bad. I went to the library today and got some mysteries, Mrs. Murphys mysteries (Mrs. Murphy is a cat). She talks with other cats and a dog. Well, why not and there are humans in these books also by Rita Mae Brown.

Also, I went to the MVD to get my driver's licensed renewed. I had to wait 2 hours.

What else?? Not much, guess we will go shopping tomorrow. Talk with you all later.

Christmas music!

Floyd's goofy country music station is playing Christmas Music this morning - think I might just lose my mind.

Rain for Thanksgiving :(

I guess it will rain Thursday and Friday this week. No matter, we aren't going anywhere.I see that Tuesday and Wednesday it will rain in California. I don't think rain is a good thing for Thanksgiving, snow maybe, but rain just doesn't do it. Of course, we rarely get rain so maybe the novelty will improve my mood. Mainly, we like to sit on our front porch for dessert. I like putting my pies, etc. on the table on the front porch so it is handy. Can't do that when it is too cold. Oh well, :(

Hope all is well out there, enjoy the holidays!!!

TGIF

Lovely, cold day here in Deming. Should be a little warmer on Thanksgiving. Wish all of you a lovely weekend. It is hot in southern California!!

Monday, November 17, 2008

pumpkin

I've been cutting up the big pumpkin I had outside,
and I am planning to make some pies for thanksgiving.

Today was a beautiful day and Floyd went for a bike ride. He came home with a peach pie, a blueberry pie and a bunch of bananas. He must have been hungry, lol. Also he bought me a nice "green" shopping bag for my library books, cool!

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Nice days, cold nights

It is that time of year, the nights are either right at freezing or just above and the days are in the upper 60s or low 70s. Lots of sunshine.

Floyd spent yesterday potting plants. He went to Walmart and purchased some potting soil and then dug up a couple of plants and potted them. We have had this Spider plant for several years now. It dies back every year but then comes back in the Springtime. He put it in a nice pot and brought it inside. Then he repotted another plant, put it in a larger pot with new soil. He does all that he can to find outdoor things to do. Floyd is so restless when he has to be indoors. Our yard always looks neat and groomed because Floyd likes to stay busy.

I hope that our government doesn't just throw money at all these failed businesses. They should just let them go bust and start over with a sensible business plan that works. It is not fair to the taxpayers to support failed industries. They must learn to be competitive. Well, that's my thinking anyway.

Think I will work on some recipes today, talk with you all later.

Friday, November 7, 2008

Hey, I'm older now!

(me and my girls), lol.

Well, considering the state of my health, this is indeed good news. I had a great birthday with many best wishes and also some super-goodies. Many thanks to all from a now much wealthier Moni, lol.

I see that it is 60F with no wind at all and lots of sunshine so I really can't complain even though it was 27F last night. Winter has come to our area. Did you all see the pictures of South Dakota and their 4 feet of snow??? Isn't that incredible, not even officially winter yet. I hear that the temps can drop as much as 70 degrees in one hour when that cold front moves in, yikes
Our trees are now shedding their leaves. However, some of our flowers are still blooming. Yesterday Floyd picked me a bunch of roses and put them in a vase for me. He did that before I was even out of bed.!

Talk to you all later.

Thanksgiving month :)

I woke up waaay too early today!

This is Thanksgiving month and Turkey Day is always a good excuse to fix lots of food and eat leftovers for a week, lol. I like the leftovers, especially the dressing and gravy and the pumpkin pie!!

I still must purchase my turkey and make a menu. I planned to invite our friends, the Watsons, but we met David in Walmart who was grocery shopping like us, and he said that they were going to the "river", for Thanksgiving. That is the Colorado River, they have family there and they all love the Casinos in Laughlin, NV, just across the "river"! lol.

Halloween!

Picture of Bush and his sidekick, McCain. All dressed up for Halloween.

I have just baked a chocolate fudge cake which I am going to decorate for Halloween with white frosting and lots of little yellow pumpkins. Halloween is tonight, so be safe!

Highs in the 80s for next few days, lots of sunshine. We are enjoying it while it lasts.

Monday, October 27, 2008

Monday!

Beautiful day here in Deming. Our lows this next week will be about 40F maybe even some 30s. I have been able to be outside to read since our daytime highs have been in the low 80s.

I've been watching the candidates on the Campaign Trail this morning and notice all the pretty colors in N.C. We have a few trees turning, but it isn't quite the same this far south. Our Plum tree is a pretty red and our silk trees are yellow.

We have added a scarecrow to our outside Fall decorations. This morning is really chilly with a breeze and just now 54F, brrr. Glad I have my books to read. We will be lucky to reach 70F today after a high of 86F yesterday. Well, I have some work to do around the house also, inside stuff, so that's ok. Time to hang some curtains, lol. I add some warm colors for winter.

Take care all, talk with you later.

Thursday, October 23, 2008

Cold Night!

There was ice in the birdbath this morning. Our temp was 34F and the coldest of the year. The temp tonight should be 36F and then start warming up. We got into the 70s with lots of sunshine today, so all is well. We won't get cold days until the middle of November. Always cold at Thanksgiving. Can you believe that our time changes soon and it will start getting dark earlier. I really don't like going back to standard time.

Guess I need to make a trip to the library tomorrow as I am on my last book. I enjoy reading at bedtime, it helps me go to sleep.

We had spaghetti with italian meatballs for dinner, yummy. I ate too much. Floyd had apple pie for dessert, I just couldn't eat any.

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

McCain - "done"

I see that McCain has given up on New Mexico, Colorado and Iowa. I think he is just tired and has run out of things to say. Palin today was in Nevada and all she did was talk about Biden. How can you win when all you do is put down the other side?? Lots of early voting here in NM this year.

I made pizza yesterday and have tons left, so guess what, dinner will be a repeat, lol.

Lovely weather here. A little on the warm side but starting tomorrow, it should be in the 70s, more like Fall. I'm going to have some homemade chicken noodle soup for lunch, yum!

Thursday, October 16, 2008

Obama did good!!!

McCain was too busy making "faces", lol

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Fall weather!

I have already voted by mail. BE SURE TO VOTE!!

Im not really complaining yet, lol. Today is an especially Fall kind of day, cloudy, some rain, coolish. I must go to the library today, that is the only thing on my agenda. Tomorrow is another Debate Day. I enjoy the Debates because my guy always does good. He acts like he knows where he's at and what's going on, unlike the other guy, THAT ONE, lol.

From what some of the folks are saying on the news, the fact that Obama is doing so well has come as a surprise to them, why???? People want change and he represents change.

Thursday, October 9, 2008

Thursday already!

I mean this month is going to be over before we know it. I received my ballot in the mail this morning. I like to vote by mail, it is easier. The Gallup daily tracking poll has Barack ahead by 11 since the last debate. He has gained after each debate, lol.

Monday, October 6, 2008

Pretty Monday

The weather here is perfect. The stock market is plunging. Hope none of you have pension funds that are being devalued by the day.

Tomorrow is another Presidential debate. I don't think these things change anyone's opinion. Republicans always think they do best and Democrats always think that they do best. Since more voters are Democrats, it usually works out better for them. I know I am biased, I just can't stand McCain.

I hear that the economists are basically blaming the mortgage loan industry for all the credit problems, say that had a domino effect on banks, etc. Well, house prices rose to ridiculous levels, so we should have seen it coming.

Thursday, October 2, 2008

Political musings

Tonight is the Biden/Palin debate. They both just make a lot of "gaffes", lol. Joe of course is older and wiser, but he still says a lot of stuff that is nonsense. It seems as if he has always done this, so no one pays much attention. Palin was so nervous with Couric, she just has to do better. After watching those clips many times on tv, I actually began to feel sorry for her. She must have had a really bad day and couldn't concentrate. She just blanked out!

Joe can be very funny at times.:) He just says anything that pops into his head. I don't think he takes debates very seriously and that is probably best.

Our weather is perfect. Beautiful sunshine, cool nights, perfect. Seems as if our area may benefit from the NRG crisis, several different solar panel companies have taken out leases on lots of acres around here for future solar farms. New Mexico already benefits from large federal land leases that are used for potential oil exploration. Keeps NM solvent, lol.

We just returned from shopping at our local supermarket, Peppers. Once a month they have a really good sale, so we took advantage of it today, and got some bargains.

Well, this debate has got to be fun, so I plan to sit back with my diet coke and enjoy it. I hope neither of these people take the whole thing too seriously.

Obama UP in the Polls

According to a new Post-Abc Poll, Obama leads McCain 52-43 in their newest poll. It's the Economy Stupid!!

Friday, September 19, 2008

One Trillion Bucks!

We just put $1,000,000,000,000 on a credit card. What are we going to do when it all comes due?? Does anyone know?? It appears that we had no choice, omigosh!!!

Perfect weather

Like my little tag?? lol.

Such awful financial news lately. Corporate greed, Corporate welfare. If the "little people" need help, they are seen as loafers or worse, if high paid Ceo's rape a company and take millions of dollars in salary and bonuses, it is ok because the government will bail them out. Guess who pays for it, that's right, all of us, one way or another. Oh well, bitching is about all we can do except change the politics with our vote.

Our weather is nearly perfect. No cooler or even fans necessary and no heaters. Just right! New Mexico State Fair is going on in
Albuquerque. Attendance is down so Gov. Richardson has reduced the admission fees. Times are tough for families and entertainment is down low on the list of necessities.

Our SWNM Fair begins soon and it is always nice. I like the Rodeo best. We have lots of cowboys and cowgirls at our Fair plus many horses, steers and assorted critters, lol.

We did attend the St.Ann's Fiesta and the food was great (bbq brisket) with all the fixins. We always have enough for two meals. St. Ann's manages to have the best bands of any of our Fiestas. Nice big crowd at the Courthouse Park.

That's about it from here today. No other news.

Hurricane Ike

We have been watching the television coverage of hurricane Ike. I lived in Houston years ago and belong to a couple of Houston Forums, so I have internet friends there. Also my good friend from high school lives in East Texas. She was worried about losing power as they had predicted 80 mile per/hr winds, but I see on the Houston Station KHOU-TV, that only Tropical Storm strength winds would be in her area. Houston had their TV Station going network for the duration of the hurricane. One of my favorite authors, Bill Crider lives in Alvin, and they were hit pretty hard. Luckily everyone I know is ok.

I have fond memories of Houston as my days there were happy ones.

All Hail Obama!

The BBC ran a poll and found out that 22 countries want Obama to be their President! lol. We need him more.

Well tomorrow is the anniversary of 9/11 and my friend Connie would like for everyone to fly their flag in remembrance. We surely will.

I can't believe that it is Wednesday already. Being retired, it is difficult to keep tabs on the day even though I have a calendar on my computer as well as a clock and I should be oriented to time and place. The weeks seem to go so quickly. We actually got an inch of rain last night that came with a really violent thunderstorm. September is still monsoon season. I prefer when it rains at night and then we have our lovely sunny days.

Found another Obama sticker:

McCain/Palin - A bridge to nowhere, thanks, but no thanks!

New Baby!!

Welcome to the world baby boy Austin!!! Congrats, Amy & John from Great-Grandma Moni.

Thursday, September 4, 2008

Thursday already!

Field of Chile!!!! It is that time again here in Deming, the Chile Harvest. The smell of roasting green chile is so wonderful. All the rain we have been having has caused some plants to wilt, but overall it is a good crop.

Yesterday our friends David & Betty stopped by to visit, then we all went out to eat. We went to a little place in town called "Lucky Duck". They have a nice little pizza buffet with italian dishes, hot wings, nice salads, etc. David said he could have stayed and eaten all day, lol.

Poor old McCain speaks tonight. He has problems reading the teleprompter. He should try enjoying his old age instead of being a power junkie. Do you notice how stiff he is, gotta be uncomfortble.

Some of you may notice that my youngest daughter doesn't like my thoughts on Palin, lol. Teresa is the lone Republican in the family, although, I did vote for Bush in the last election. I was wrong, not because of the war, apparently we will always have wars, but because the economy is in such a depressed state and we owe China so much money. I hate that. All these housing foreclosures and bankruptcies, it is a shame. Bill Clinton left the White House with a nice stable economy and low debt.

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Lovely day!

We went grocery shopping today. The weather was perfect, sunny with a slight breeze. We watched the tv accounts of hurricane Gustav, and it was great to know that New Orleans escaped with minimal damage. Still, millions of dollars in damages, but not a big toll on human life. The city and state did a great job this time of taking care of business.

So now the Republicans have a convention. Well, those ladies with the very strident voices, I just can't listen to them. They need voice lessons if they are going to make speeches so they learn how to modulate their voices. It is hard to listen to those shrill sounds. How can one get to be Governor of a State and not know how to speak???? Oh yes, the same way you allow your teenage daughter to get pregnant, your hubby to have a DUI, your office to be under criminal investigation.,to have a retarded child because you are too old to bear a child,etc.... Cindy McCain says that Palen has international experience since Alaska is so close to Russia, lol.
PLEASE, SOMEONE, STOP ME......hahahaha

Monday morning!

Today is the start of the Democratic National Convention in Denver. I have a granddaughter who lives in Denver, wonder if she is observing any of the activities, probably not because she actually lives in Westminster, which is just outside of Denver.

Our Duck events ended and the top prize winners were two little girls each winning $1,440 each. One girl was 5 years old and one was 6. They had some fast ducks!! The 5 year old said she was saving her money for college. The 6 year old said she was going to Hawaii, lol.

We know about the races, because we in fact did get our newspaper this morning. First time in two weeks. We went to the office to complain about not getting our paper a week ago, and they said that they had no help. All their carriers had quit.

Slow news day from here. Beautiful weather. Talk with you all later.

Friday, August 22, 2008

Busy weekend

This weekend is our annual Deming Duck Race events. There will be tortilla toss competition, outhouse races, horseshoe competitions, duck races on land and water, etc. Also lots of vendors, food and a big carnival with all the rides for the kiddies, plus rock climbing, dancing and lots of entertainment venues. And, my favorite, hot air balloons!

Floyd has been looking all over town for a tee shirt for this year's event. They are all sold out where ever he goes and they sell for $29.98. He has decided to wear the one from last year. They also have an all you can eat bbq at the Methodist Church. They have this every year. Tonight the sponsers hold a nice dinner/dance at our convention center.

I am making a big pot of pork ribs bbq. Gonna make some potato salad to go with in a bit. Enough to last us all weekend, lol.

Sunday, August 17, 2008

Beautiful Weather!

I am always complaining about the weather, but today is perfect. We are going to go for a ride in the country. Well, you know I got a new computer, and I really like it but I don't like windows Vista! I still can't find things that I want in a hurry and I have added too many shortcuts so that I can get around.

I watched that religious thing with Obama and McCain last evening, thought it was silly. I don't care what religion someone has, why should I??. McCain was true to form, crazy old man, all he wants to talk about is what happened to him years and years ago. That's how old guys are, they tell the same stories over and over. He shakes that little fist and gets so angry, lol. He seems to remember every little thing that was said to him and what he said back, hmmm. Did you know that his oldest son Doug is 48 years old?? A year older than Barack Obama!!

He never talks about what he did when he came home from Vietnam. He found out that his wife had been in an auto accident and seriously injured, so what did he do, started running around, never home, left his wife alone with the three children they had. He got a marriage license with Cindy before he was even divorced. He lied about his age to Cindy. Guess he saw a pretty girl with a rich daddy and wanted that more than his marriage.

Amazing that he remembers everything about his capture and nothing about his affairs during his younger days. He has never been a nice person and he doesn't fool me. BTW, McCain's first wife is alive and living in Virginia Beach, VA. She still has to use crutches to get around but she is able to drive.

I don't think McCain deserves a pass on this.

http://suzieqq.wordpress.com/2008/06/09/carol-mccain-the-wife-john-mccain-callously-left-behind/.......

Other people have similar opinions regarding McCain.

RANT OVER!!, lol.

Lawnwork the ez way

Finally we hired a gardner to take care of our yard. It is getting too much for Floyd and me. This guy just cuts the grass and does the weeds. We will still water and trim stuff. Well, we should have done this a long time ago.

Not much new happening just now. Deming has their annual Duck Races in a couple of weeks and we always go to that. It is a four day celebration, but we usually go 2 days. We enjoy when the hot air balloons come over our house. Mostly we enjoy listening to the music and eating, lol. After that is the St.Ann's Fiesta with even better food and music on Sept. 14th. Our neighbor gave us free tickets this year, yea!!

We have been seeing these pretty little orange hummingbirds. They are so pretty and colorful. We do not remember seeing orange ones before. Wonder where they came from??

I've been reading Tony Hillerman's books of the Southwest, more specifically about the NW Corner of the NM and NE Corner of Arizona, home of the Navajos. They are really enjoyable and it is hard to imagine that Tony is not a Navajo himself as he is so totally into the history and culture.

Internet problems

Well, actually my computer broke! It was ten years old, so I was not surprised. I had thought that it was gone before, but this time was for sure. I found a nice little computer at Walmart and it was on sale and not only that, but this is a tax-free weekend, so I lucked out. It is really nice having a new computer.

We had quite a lot of rain in July, and hopefully not so much in August. We are not used to dealing with weeds here in the desert, lol. Floyd did get a mosquito bite last week. Hope there are no more out there.

Had good news from Stewart today, hope it holds.

Hello Dolly

There is thunder rumbling outside today. Yesterday our little Japanese friend was going to come over for lunch and fix us some carne asada tacos, yummy. Anyway, it was getting stormy from the Hurricane, so we had to call it off, :( Now our sky is dark again.

The dogs are not only inside, but hovering near me. They are frightened of thunder. Floyd is on our front porch watching the front move in.

I remember Hurricane Carla in 1961 which came roaring in to the Gulf of Mexico. We lived in Houston and went down to Galveston to watch the storm come in. I was so fascinated by the big black wall coming toward shore, that I didn't realize that the water had come up over the seawall and that I was standing in several inches of water. We just did make it over the bridge and back to Houston before she hit. Massive destruction to homes and beaches and piers. The big hotels stood safe.

The next day my dad and I went to Galveston to survey damage. The seawall was littered with debris and lots of coconuts. He said "they probably came from South America", lol.

So we only get the remnants of the Gulf hurricanes here in Deming, thank goodness.

Showers

We have been having late afternoon and evening thunderstorms everyday. Not a lot of rain from these, but the clouds keep the temps down. Floyd had to cut the grass today, lol. We get spoiled since the desert doesn't normally give us much moisture.

We had a nice lunch last Saturday, Chinese! Good company, too. We had a silly thing happen here. We have a small house, but the ceilings are very high. So when we have to do something toward the ceiling, like clean a ceiling fan or clean the walls, it just doesn't get done. Well, we have an abundance of smoke detectors, I don't know why but Stewart just kept installing them. When the battery goes, they make this awful high-pitched beeping sound. Floyd tries, but never can fix them so we call the local electrician. The electrician didn't show and the beeping drove the dogs crazy. Casey ran outside, stayed out all night two nights in a row, which she never does. The weather was really nice, thank goodness. Baby who sleeps in my bed, tried to sleep on top of me and Duke was very restless all night as was Floyd so we didn't get much sleep this past weekend. Then this morning early, Floyd figured out that he had actually fixed the one in the hallway because it wasn't beeping anymore, but the one on the wall in the hallway was, so it was easy to get to, he changed the battery and we had peace and quiet. I finally was able to coax Casey inside, lol. I mean, being old is an experience, I can tell you.

Nice days!

The rain finally stopped and now the weeds are growing, lol. We are enjoying some very nice weather at the moment. We have been out to dinner twice recently with friends and have enjoyed both experiences. Next Saturday we have a noon lunch date in the park, Chinese take-out, yummm.

Our friend Betty has early Alzheimers. It's different when you personally know someone. She often forgets what is just said to her and it is very sad. She also confuses us with her family. She knows that she is "forgetful" and says that David gets aggravated with her. She is taking some kind of medicine to help her, but it doesn't seem to be helping.

I am currently watching westerns on TV. Most relaxing thing to do. Hope everyone enjoys their week. Talk with you later.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

Rain and more rain!

We had not had any rain for 6 months and then the monsoon clouds moved in and it is rain everyday. We are enjoying it. What a change though, rain everyday for 4 days now. Everything is cool at our house. Hope it is cool at your house.

Sunday, July 6, 2008

Nice Weekend

We are enjoying a nice quiet weekend. Well, quiet considering all the local fireworks. Friday we had a nice lunch with our friend and she stayed to watch fireworks at night. It seemed as if all the fireworks in the world were in Deming on the 4th. It was very pretty and we really enjoyed them. Today, Sunday has been a peaceful day, just enjoying the day. No measureable rain since December 7th, 2007, so no flies or mosquitos. This month should see the start of our "monsoon" weather, which actually means rain coming in from the southwest.

Have you noticed how large and impressive Jupiter is in the eastern skies just after sunset? This time of year, Jupiter is aligned just right with Earth and the Sun to be the brightest ever.

Hope all is well in your part of the world.

July 4th

Independence day!

We hope everyone enjoys their holiday! And, we wish all the wildfires out west, would just stop! We will be spending the day at home. Our little Japanese friend is coming for lunch. I am fixing some bbq so all is good, lol. We can see lots of fireworks from our front porch, so we are not going anywhere.

Have a great weekend all.

Fireworks!!

We have been enjoying fireworks every night now. We sit on our front porch and many of our neighbors have fireworks and it is fun to watch. Of course, on the 4th there will be many more, but still we enjoy watching all the exploding colors.

Our friends Betty and David visited us last Friday. We had a nice enjoyable visit. Tuesday, July 1st, they are picking us up and treating us to lunch at our little Casino. Then we will go over to their home and look at all their flowers and plants. They have a lovely yard and spend a lot of time working on it.

Tomorrow Floyd has a doctor's appointment, just routine, as he is feeling fine. I visited with our neighbor across the street today, she has had some recent health problems. Getting old has it's drawbacks!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PHYLLIS!

Today is my eldest daughter's birthday!

Monday Monday

Here it is Monday again. Not a lot new going on. Last week was spent in one doctor's office after another. This week I have two appointments and Floyd has two. I would have had three, but I cancelled one. One thing I have found out, I am now only 5'2" tall. Wonder when that happened?

It has been nice around here. We actually had thunderstorms Sat. night, not much rain but the temps dropped dramatically with the wind blowing, it was almost chilly! I have been reading daily Journals by people riding their bikes across the country and it is really interesting. East to West, West to East, North to South and South to North. Also many folks hiking all over the place, for miles!! Sounds like great fun if you are physically able. There are designated bike trails and hiking trails all over this country, who knew??

Nice warm weather

We are right in the middle of our summer. June is the warmest month here primarily because of the clear skies. Starting next month, we will have some cloud cover that helps moderate the high temps. Actually, we kind of enjoy the heat. Isn't the flooding in the midwest awful?? Nice to live along rivers so long as they stay inside their banks. Some of the positive things about living in our area, no fires, no earthquakes, no floods, no tornados, no hurricanes, only springtime dust storms. We can live with that even though we don't like them.

Floyd had a great Father's Day and wishes to thank all the kids who were so generous. He is a lucky dad, grandpa and stepdad!! He thinks he is rich, lol.

I will be happy when this week is over. Doctor's appointments tomorrow and Friday and I always dislike them. Some old folks seem to love hanging around in doctor's offices, egad!

TGIF

Omigosh, tomorrow is Friday the 13th! I had doctor appointments today and glad they weren't for tomorrow. I have a nice young doctor and he is very thorough. The first thing he did, was change my Cardiologist! I mentioned some of the problems with mine and he right away made an appointment with someone local who used to work at the famous Cleveland Heart Institute, so he is very qualified. The main reason I went to see the doc is that I have this rash all over me with no apparent reason. Anyway, he gave me a script for some salve. I made sure that he had all the right things on my chart, like a living will and a do not resusitate. I always tell the docs not to resusitate, but they always do. I don't want to live long enough to suffer a massive stroke, if you know what I mean.

Tomorrow we are having a guest for lunch. She is a nice young lady, a nurse and she has been having lunch at our house every week for a while now. She believes that she has a job at our local hospital. She is from Japan, so lots of paperwork involved in getting licenses, background checks, etc. Anyway, I am looking forward to her visit, we always have lots to talk about. I'm not sure what we are having except that I want keylime pie for desert, yummm. I will figure a menu in the morning.

Saturday is Flag Day and Sunday is Father's Day. Have a great weekend everyone.

Talk with you later.

Wild West!

The wind has been blowing and dust is everywhere. Not as hot as it has been, so that is good, but still Deming looks like the old west with tumbleweeds everywhere and no people on the streets.

All is well with us. Had our new landline hooked up today. Some places do not want a cell phone number, so we more or less had no choice except to call Qwest.

Going to take a nap and then bake a cake! Hope everyone has a good day.

Lovely Days

We have been having some really lovely weather here, especially for this time of year. Normally, beginning May 15th, we are in the 100s daily, but not so yet, lol. We had perfect days for the Memorial Day weekend and that was good so that all the scheduled festivities could go on without a hitch. We enjoyed our weekend, had some lovely guests and all was good. Hope your summer is going good. This is truly the best time of year for us.

Summertime

Summertime and the livin is easy, lol.
Our roses are beautiful and our front porch smells like a rose garden. Today our high should reach 100F because summer comes early to our part of the world. We love the heat.
Not much new going on around here. Floyd does the watering early in the day before the heat sets in. Everything is growing and blooming.
Take care all, keep cool!

Problems south of the border

We have been fine, but we are still having serious problems south of the border:

Parents are keeping their children out of school and police are arming themselves with automatic weapons in two border towns south of Deming because of recent bloodshed from a drug war.
“We’re afraid it’s going to spill over onto this side because many of the people that work over there live here,” says Columbus, New Mexico, Mayor Allen Rosenberg of the violence occurring in Palomas, Mexico, just two miles away.

In Luna County, all deputies carry assault rifles because of the Palomas violence: This past weekend, shells littered the streets of Palomas after seven people were killed.
The local newspaper reports that children from Palomas who attend school in Columbus have recently been staying home.

Recently, the police chief of Palomas sought asylum at the border because he feared he would be assassinated. In the past year, 10 Mexican nationals with bullet wounds have tried crossing into New Mexico.

In Palomas, which is heavily dependent on New Mexico senior citizens who cross the border for inexpensive medication and dental work, the economy is taking a hit.
“I had a restaurant,” said Palomas resident Gabriel Navarez. “It’s closed because I don’t have enough customers.”

The Mexican federal government has recently stepped up to put a lid on the drug violence. On a recent day, a caravan of Federales – Mexico’s national police force – was seen patrolling Palomas. They pile in on top of jeeps and pickups wearing black ski masks and really, they look like gangsters. Of course, they carry AK47s.

Following a recent bout of violence, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson announced he’s asking for more funding for border law enforcement
.

Lovely weekend

We had a lovely weekend. Many thanks to everyone who remembered me and I am a very lucky mom indeed!

Our weather is finally getting warm enough to please me, should be 90F today and windy this afternoon. Think I will make a quick run to the store before the wind starts.

Floyd is still on eye drops 3 times a day, starting next week, 2 times a day, then once per day then an appointment with his eye doc. His vision is very much better for which we are both grateful.

I am still enjoying Margaret Coel's books and would definitely recommend them. Think I will get busy and do a bit of shopping. Talk with you all later.

Lots of birds!

A bird seen from our front porch this morning:

Ladder-backed Woodpecker. It is a small woodpecker and likes our cactus garden. I didn't take this picture because the birds never sit still long enough for me to get my camera ready. Anyway, this looks exactly like our bird. Also we saw some little burrowing owls, so cute, just a pair of them sitting on a fencepost. The House Finches are nesting all over the place.

Cinco de Mayo

Our town is celebrating the victory of Mexico over the French. Lots of food and entertainment in town. We will have some fajitas this Monday to celebrate in our own little way.

Terrible storms, fires and earthquakes across the country. We have had our own battles with duststorms. Luckily, the only damage from the dust is a layer of dirt all over. Easy to clean up our mess compared to all those poor people who have suffered tornados.

Picked up some books at the library, and they are interesting. Native American Mysteries by Margaret Coel, historical fiction. These warm sunny days are great for sittin and readin! We have a pair of Bullocks Orioles nesting in our Desert Willow Tree. The male sits on our front fence and just looks at us. They are so pretty, just brilliant in color.

Thanks Louise!

I was depressed last night so I called Lifeline.

Got a call center in Pakistan .

I told them I was suicidal.

They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck

Chores!

We have been vacuuming and dusting off and on all day. We have a small house, so you can imagine the amount of dust around here. It hasn't rained in so long, that the dirt just blew in through every tiny little crack and crevice. We had a strong wind Sunday night and it just blew all night and half of Monday so that the air was filled with dust. We haven't seen anything remotely like it in the eleven years that we have lived in Deming. Floyd says it is because it hasn't rained in such a long time. I mean we had to change all the linens on our beds, in the bathroom, curtains, etc. It was awful.

So now Floyd is cleaning the front porch which isn't any worse than inside. I have lots of laundry going, so will talk with you all later.

Good Report

Floyd saw his eye doc this morning and got a very good report. He was so happy to be able to read the eye chart so easily :).

Something in the news: Did you see that article that was in the London Times? DISNEY COMES TO IRAQ!
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080423.wiraq23/BNStory/International/home

There is an investor in California that is building an entertainment complex like a Disney Theme Park in Iraq, just outside the Green Zone where he has leased 50 acres of land. He is building a zoo, a museum, a concert hall, an amusement park with rides and a skatepark. The entire project is costing him $500 million. The $1 million Skatepark will open this July. He says he will employ thousands of Iraqis and it will give the children a place to go. He plans to build hotels, restaurants, also. Actually, if the above link doesn't work, just google Amusement Park in Iraq, and you will find it. It's all over the web.
A "funny" thing: OJ wants to be a Trump Apprentice. hahahaha

Well, Sierra County has pass a Spaceport Tax so now the only thing left is for FAA approval.
Construction should begin soon. They contractors have been working on the Infrastructure. Let's go Spaceport America!!!!

Back from hospital

We just got back from the hospital where Floyd had cataract surgery. He is doing good and goes to see his doc at 8am in the morning. He feels good but has tons of eye drops to take.

Beautiful day here in Deming. I expect to take a nap later today since I got up at 5:30am and that is very early for me, as I am a nightowl.

Needless to day I was very pleased with Hillary's good showing in PA. She is so tough and I really admire her because for whatever reason, the media has been very hard on her and I don't think the Democratic Party has been very supportive either. I hope she wins and sticks it to 'em!

Summertime

Today was like a summer day. High was 88F with lots of sunshine. We have been enjoying our warm weather. I spend a good portion of my day on my front porch swing watching the birds and reading my books. We have been seeing Hummingbirds for a couple of weeks now, they like our red honeysuckle flowers.
Pecan trees in Deming!

New Restaurant

While we are waiting for our Apaches to get Reservation status for their land, we can have some pie and coffee, lol. Actually, we could get a 16 oz. ribeye if we wanted to.

Lovely day

Such a pretty day today. We went for a drive in the country, pass our old home and in that general area. Also we went further out to see how the new crops are doing. Saw onions and alfalfa, but that was all. Things are planted, but we couldn't make out what they are. Also, saw a new Pecan field. New Mexico grows more pecans than any other state. It once was Georgia, but Atlanta has grown by leaps and bounds and that whole area was pecans. Texas is second in pecan production.

We have various errands to run tomorrow so we will be out and about. Just now I have a cake in the oven, so I had best be checking on it. It is a chocolate layer cake, and I am going to frost it with white cream cheese frosting. :-)

Have a good Monday!

keyboard messed up.

Yesterday I decided to wash my keyboard. I didn't put it in water, but I did spray it with windex. Apparently my keyboard preferred to be dirty because it would not work after cleaning, so I had to go buy another. I hope my old one works once it is completely dried out. Who knows??

That idiot Bill Richardson says that every day he talks with the Presidente of Mexico and has been promised 100 federales on the border in the town of Palomas, Mx. The Border Agents say that no troops have arrived even though Richardson insists that they had been sent. I think the Border Patrol ought to know if Mexican Troops are there!

What's for dinner?? I have some cajun Boudain Sausage, and, some stir-fry veggies. Also, I think a few french fries would go good, hmmm. Quick and easy stuff! We have ice cream for desert, that's what Floyd likes and I will have some conchas.

I'm going to finish my books by Carolyn Hart and return them to the library tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to find Stuart Wood's latest. Also, I am going to look for Diane Mott Davidson's latest culinary mystery. The books about sleuth Goldy Schultz are very entertaining and contain some really great recipes. My other favorite culinary sleuth, is Faith Fairchild, written by Katherin Hall Page.

Tomorrow

So tomorrow is April 1st. Floyd has an appointment with his eye doc in the morning but that's all we have planned. We are currently experiencing Spring winds. They are out of the west and the southwest, so they are warm and that's what we care about. We have a bunch of junk out front of our house and the city promised to come pick the stuff up but so far they haven't showed. When we need a special pick-up, we call and I called them Friday but so far no show. We just have a bunch of stuff that has accumulated through the years and not worth anything, you know, just taking up space.

About three months ago our deep freeze just quit working, so we have been looking for another and found one at Diamond Furniture here in Deming. Every time I shop, I miss my freezer because when we find good deals, our little freezer in our fridge is just not large enough to shop in bulk. Not only do freezers pay for themselves over time, but it saves many a trip to the store and with gas prices being what they are, that's important. We are putting it in lay-a-way, waiting for our tax rebate. What are you all planning to do with your rebate?? Bush says "spend it", so that's what we are going to do.

Gotta go take care of my laundry since floyd just walked by and said "just so you know, both of your machines have stopped", lol.

New Birdbath

Floyd said this morning, "I'm going somewhere and I will be back soon". I kind of figured he was getting a haircut. He gets haircuts when he has no hair. Anyway, he was back in about 20 minutes and he brought back a nice concrete birdbath! I love it. We have it in our backyard and when our Mulberry tree gets all filled out, it will look great. We have it between our Mulberry Tree and our Plum Tree.

We found pine cones on all but one of our pine trees! Our trees are still babies but are about 12 feet tall. Duke loves to play with and chew on pine cones. :-)

Planting Trees!

Today we went to Walmart and purchased two peach trees. Floyd did all the work and planted them and fertilized them. They are cute. One is an Elberta Peach and one is a California Peach. We planted them back of the Dog Run where our vegetable garden use to be. Maybe next year we will have peaches!

Our next door neighbors have guests. They came in a large Motor Home and Floyd had to help them as the man didn't know how to park the thing, lol.

Nothing else new around here. We love these nice days and we are predicted to have a week of warm weather, yea!

First Day of Spring

Well, it's official:

Sunny Day!

Floyd made a trip to Peppers on his trike. He visits with neighbors along the way, so it is a social thing for him. Today is really a lovely day and he is outside enjoying the sunshine with his radio, the dogs, a beer and cheese snacks. Life doesn't get much better than that. I was outside with him earlier. Now I am watching tv and playing on the computer. Floyd bought me some Nacho Doritos, which I love. He said "I saw them and thought of you", lol.

Things are fine here. Our friends the Watsons are getting over the Flu, Pat's eldest James is about to graduate high school, Kim just got married, things are going Stewart's way and all is right with the world.

Gotta get me a diet coke and check out those Doritos. Talk with you later.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Oops!

Floyd was cutting the grass today and he accidentally ran over a pvc drain pipe, eek! So tomorrow he will probably run over to Stew's to get another little piece of pipe. The grass had grown up over the pipe and he didn't see it.

Beautiful weather here and just about all over the U.S. We spent much of the day outdoors. The rest of the week should be more of the same. So all the news is about that pervert Governor of New York, Spitzer. Well, make that the ex-Governor. Can you believe it??

Monday, March 10, 2008

Nothing new!

Nothing new happening around here. Congrats to grandson Nicholas who just made the Varsity soccer team, goooo Nicco!

Mississippi Primary tomorrow and Obama is expected to win. After all Mississippi is 37% Black, nuff said.

Our weather has been iffy. Still no rain and the balance of the week should be in the low 70s. We are still adjusting to the time change, lol.

The History Channel says that we are "between Ice Ages", so much for global warming.

Gonna watch some talking heads on TV. Take care all, have a good week.

Wednesday, March 5, 2008

Spring Chores

Floyd is fertilizing our plants and trees. We haven't purchased our peach trees yet so we can do them when they are planted. I'm glad he is fertilizing everything. I don't know what he is using, because he went to the store and bought something and when he came home, he said "I bought something for the shrubs and trees, and it isn't your kind of stuff", lol.

The wind just came up out of the west. It seems as if we will have a couple of cooler days this week. So I still haven't gone to the library and will do this sometime this week. I was up late last night watching the Primaries, and I'm kinda slow today. I began fixing dinner about a half hour ago. Had to thaw some chicken. I am fixing a large chicken breast for Floyd and legs for me and the doggies. I am also fixing some mac & cheese and mixed veggies. We have pie for desert, so I don't think I need fix more.

Well old McCain made it. He's kind of skanky, cheated on his first wife with Cindy and most likely cheated on Cindy from all reports. I don't think he can be trusted. So this is my opinion and he is so old now, he probably has forgotten more than he ever knew, lol.

Talk with you all later. Have a good week.

Saturday, March 1, 2008

March 1st, 1008

Our plum tree has lots and lots of blooms, yea! I need to check out some peach trees at Walmart and Kmart next week. We have noticed that all the trees are greening up nicely here in Deming. I just love Spring. Floyd took a bike ride today and bought himself a few beers. He hasn't had any in about 6 months because one of his meds just made beer taste awful. He has since had the dosage of the med changed, and he said he enjoyed his beer today with no side effects. You know at our age, simple pleasures are about all we have and I am glad he will be able to have a couple of beers daily during the long hot summer that we always have.

Just finished a book by Harlan Cobin, he is just a great author. He writes American detective mysteries which are my favorite. I'll be back at the library come Monday, lol. Well, I need to go over to my other blog, the one about space tourism and do some updates. Hope you enjoy your Sunday!

Thursday, February 28, 2008

I am soooo pissed!

Floyd brought me coffee and the morning's paper this morning and he said "you are not going to like what you read in the paper". Sure enough I didn't. The headlines read " Governor Richardson blocks entrance to Deming, casino". The article said that employees of the casino and tribal members would be allowed in but he is waiting for the Feds to give their ok because he sees this tribal action as an "illegal casino". Oh well, hope this thing gets going as it was supposed to open today.

There has been a lot of violence south of the border right here. Palomas has been the scene of numerous shootings and killings in the past month. Yesterday, there was more automatic gunfire and more bodies laying in the streets, so much so that our local police and state troopers rushed down and closed the border entrance temporarily until the Mexican government could get things under control. The big drug cartels are now operating openly right here, south of our border. It moved from Laredo to Juarez and now to the little town of Palomas. It is drug dealers fighting one another over who controls the drugs along the border. Nobody cares if they want to kill each other, but innocent people can get caught in the crossfire. I understand the Mexican government has agreed to send more federales to that side of the border.

Our weather is the good news. Deming is greening up. We went to the library yesterday and noticed that the cottonwood trees had big buds on them, yea! Our roses are sprouting new leaves and Spring is definitely here. Floyd made me promise not to plant any more flowers but he said I could plant a peach tree. I want two of them, lol. One yellow and one white! Our temp should be up in the 70s today, so another great day to spend outdoors. Yesterday Floyd dug trenches around all the trees and removed some unwanted growth from the bushes and watered everything so he doesn't have any yard work to do today. Have a good one y'all.

Monday, February 25, 2008

Warm and Windy!

Beautiful day today, already 71F on our front porch but the wind is blowing strong out of the west, can't feel it on the porch as we face east. There is a storm coming in from the west, but it is going north of us, so we just get the wind. Guess what??? Our plum tree is making buds! They are still green but growing and it is sooo cool. I don't want it to bloom too early because the wind just knocks the blooms off and then the plums too. Oh well, sure sign of Spring. Made it to the library and picked up some good mysteries by J.A.Jance. I have read all of her Sheriff Brady books, now I am going on with some of her other series and they are all very good. Hope you are having a great week. Talk with you later.

Friday, February 22, 2008

TGIF

Yes it is Friday again. We have a great weather week coming up and Sunday should be near 80F. I see that the southern U.S. is nice and warm and it is about time. We never received any of the rain predictions. We get our weather forecasts out of Albuquerque and that is so far away, that we are right on the southern edge of their radar curve. If we could get weather from Mexico, we would be better off.

Wishing you a very happy weekend. Hope your weather is nice and that you have an enjoyable time. I am going to pick up something to bbq Sunday and since we are going to Walmart anyway, that will be easy. Gotta get my doggies some bones to chew on, lol.

Oh yes, I have a U-tube that is timely just now, thanks Jim!

President's Day

Hope all of you had a happy Valentine's Day. Floyd gave me the prettiest card you can imagine and a big box of chocolates!

We are having a lovely day here in Deming. Lots of Sunshine, no wind! Nothing new to report. We saw our doctors and nothing new, we are as fine as can be expected. Floyd has spent most of today reorganizing a shed, lol. I haven't done much except put dinner on. Simple meal, fried chicken, potatoes, mixed veggies. We had a nice lunch, so that's good enough. Have errands to run tomorrow, hope this nice weather holds. Oh yes, one thing I did was try to organize my flower seeds, not much but something, lol. Wont be long now and Spring will be here. Our Spring arrives about a month before it is official.

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

Wednesday!

Another lovely day. One thing about this part of the country, we never experience any natural disasters such as: Earthquakes, Tornados, Hurricanes, Blizzards, Floods, etc. Just nice and dry. The drought is part of being located in the Chihuahuan Desert. A neighbor was telling us a story about the Sandhill Cranes that I blogged about. This group lives here year round and one day they were taking off and one of the birds fell right out of the sky into his front yard. He said it was unconscious but alive. Since it was a very hot day, he picked him up and put him in the shade and gave him some water. He said the bird gradually came around and two days later, just took off as if nothing had happened to him. Getting sufficient water is a challenge for the Cranes.

Our local casino that I keep talking about, will be called Apache Casino and they are running a half page Ad in our local paper for all kinds of help. This is good for the community. Initially, it will be a small place, 11,000 sq.ft. but within a year they should start on their 20 million dollar building and then they will hire many more to keep that place going.

Our temps should reach 75F today but tomorrow and Friday will be much cooler. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and Floyd has one for friday. Oh well, a couple of pretty cold days and then it should warm up again.

Sunday, February 10, 2008

Warm and Sunny

Today is a beautiful day. We drove out to the casino site and they are really coming along with the construction. The facade frame is up all around and on top of the building and the guys were busy working today (Sunday). While out that way we went to the Akela Flats Trading Post and Floyd bought himself a pretty belt with silver things on it and I bought a dozen chocolate chip cookies and 1/2 lb. of fudge. Had coffee too but it is free and delicious. Lots of people out and about.

On the way home we passed a field full of Sandhill Cranes. There must have been a thousand of them just as far as we could see. From a distance I thought they were emus but no, they were cranes. Just weird to see so many in one spot.

We came back and stopped at Burger King for lunch and then home. Such a lovely day and I am so looking forward to Spring and Summer. What will I bitch about when winter is gone????

Tonight there is a special on the NGC about global warming, something about +6 degrees and it sounds really interesting, so we want to see that. The truth of the matter, I don't buy into the global warming theory, but still this program sounds provocative, lol.

Oh yes, finally they broke ground for our Entertainment Center which will be 6 movie theaters, 16 lane bowling alley, sports bar, snack bar and arcade plus an 18 hole indoor blacklight minature golf course. Better than nothing. This past week they did start regular bus service in Deming and the transportation office will be at the old depot building next to the Entertainment Center.

Slowly but surely Deming is coming along.

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

Winter time!

It really hasn't been all that cold, just our Mountain nights and the wind.

The SuperTuesday was fun for me as Hillary did great. Obama could make you nuts with that gospel mantra of his:

"We don't want to go back, we want to go forward, we don't want the past, we want the future, we don't want to go down, we want to up, etc. etc., ",eek! lol Also, I really dislike McCain. For one thing he is too old to be President. He could do a lot of things, like being a professor, or Legislator, but not a President because that is one office that is very unforgiving and no place for senior citizens. He could have a stroke at any time and he did have cancer, and on his head!!

So anyway, I am really hoping that Hillary gets it done because she knows her stuff and that is what we need. I know many men will not vote for a woman, but so what. History has shown many great women as leaders. I understand that she has the most Super-delegates.

Also, I was so happy that Eli Manning and his Giants won the Superbowl. It looked like his brother Peyton was as happy as he was.

Terrible tornados across the south. Tragic.

Friday, February 1, 2008

Good TV

Good television lately and now we have the Superbowl on Sunday and Super Tuesday to look forward to. I hate cold weather, so I kind of hibernate during the winter with my coffee and TV and my books.

Floyd is out riding his bike. He either walks everyday or rides his bike. His doctor says that he is in excellent shape, and he wants to stay that way. We walked together when I was up to it. We will be going to Walmart today to pick up meds and a few groceries. I see a week of about 60 - 65F every day this next week, so that's not too bad. Our local golfers say that this has been a cold winter here. Glad we are not in the midwest with about a foot of snow, eek.

Oh yes, something great that I read on the net, seems there is a doctor in Texas who works for the Baylor University Hospital medical group, and he had developed a kind of vacine to help Cocain addicted people and it may work for other illegal addictive drugs. What it does, a series of injections over a 3 month period will put a certain protein in the body which binds to any cocain taken into the system and instead of the drug going through the bloodstream to the brain, it will simply be excreted. He has been working on this since 1995 and only needs one more trial set before his med is approved by the FDA. Wonderful news. They think that possible this drug could be given to young men who are in high risk situations as a preventative measure. This is something great for a whole bunch of folks, especially in this country.

Springlike weather

Seems as if Spring has arrived in Deming. We have had a little rain during the night the past two nights but nice and mild temps. Supposed to be windy this afternoon, so Floyd took his walk early.

The local bus service begins today and that should be interesting. I'll have to drive around to see where the bus stops are. Just little blue signs, lol. I wanted covered stops, but maybe later. One of the Routes goes to Columbus and the Port of Entry. At least this is one thing that has been accomplished. Deming doesn't seem to be able to put together much of anything that takes less than 5 years. When Wal-mart came to town, they cleared the land, put in a signal light with new turn lanes and built their store within a year. They could do this because they didn't ask the City of Deming for anything. We are sure that the new casino will be completed before our local Entertainment Center, because the City of Deming and Luna County have nothing to say about it. Let's vote all the bums out!!!!

Warm Sunny Day!

Today is just a beautiful day, sunny and no wind. We are all going to be spending time outside today. Floyd already took his walk and he has a routine doctors appointment this afternoon. I love these nice days and our weekly forecast is for more of the same. Just makes me want to plant something but Floyd says "no", he thinks we have enough stuff planted, lol.

Happy Birthday Teresa, I don't know where all the time has gone.

Hello

Talked to David this morning, he's as jazzed about our new casino as I am. Our local weather people say we will get rain, but we haven't seen rain in so long that I don't think I will recognize it if it happens. Floyd has been outside doing yard work most of the day, he just can't stay inside unless it is freezing.

Had some nice photos from granddaughter Kimberly of pictures they took in Italy, mostly Rome, Venice and Florence. Cold there though. Have some great pictures of Patsy's Mediterranean. Cruise, 1,000 pics on a disc, lol. Great armchair adventures for us.

I'm going to bake my favorite butter cake. Take care all, talk with you later.

Better day

Yesterday and today, floyd was outside doing gardening chores. He cut back the red sage so it will grow more even as it is already coming up from the roots. Also, he did some raking and general yard cleanup. The weather is coolish, but he says it is good for working.

I just put a Turkey in the oven for dinner. We will have leftovers for tomorrow. I'm also going to make some small baked red potatoes and have a salad plus cherry pie with vanilla ice cream for desert. I must be hungry today. I mean, a whole turkey! Well, it is kinda small.

We are watching a movie and it has commercials which are like every 10 minutes. Floyd wants to see the end of the movie but he also wants to take a bike ride, lol. So everytime there is a commercial, he checks his watch., haha.

I have recieved two gardening catalogs so far. Burgess was the first one, it always is. I love looking at the pretty pictures. I doubt we will have a vegetable garden this year, maybe some cantaloupes, we love them.

Movie is over, Floyd is going for a bike ride and I must find something else on DTV. Talk with you later.

Hello

Welcome to my new blog.

I just left bravenet due to so many spammers. I must get 5 or 6 spams per day and then I have to go about deleting them. I am familiar with blogger as I have another blog here. I've got to go and finish making dinner, then I will try to bring this blog up to speed. I have many things to do to add necessary accessories here, like links and friends and photos. We look forward to hearing from you. I am going to add some links so it will be easier to keep in touch with my friends. Talk with you later.
