Summer!

Beautiful day here in southern NM. The air is dry and clean, the sky is blue, and the little white clouds are just drifting by. We haven't seen or felt a mosquito yet, even after that one inch rain we had last week. It is so nice to be able to have the doors open and the windows too with no cooler on.

Our local radio station plays oldies on Thursdays, so Floyd is tuned in. He enjoys listening to the old guy who does the spinning, "Spinnin with McKinnon" - a scotsman. This old guy goes to the same eye doc that we do, we've seen him there. Oh well, where else can he go, it is a small town, lol.

One day is about the same as the rest around here, weekends have no special meaning. We must get over and check out the new Entertainment Center. It will be open 365 days a year, so no hurry. Next week we are going to get David & Betty and take them out to lunch. This week they have procedures scheduled.

Hope everyone is enjoying their day. Talk with you all later.

Beautiful Day!

We have been having some great weather. Even received an inch of rain last Saturday. We had a nice quiet Memorial Day. Our high school held it's graduation ceremonies and now school is officially out for the summer.

We had a simple menu for Memorial Day. I made a bunch of hot wings and a homemade pizza also we had watermelon. Our friends David and Betty stopped by later for some pie and coffee. They are fine, just dealing with problems that older folks have. Her Alzheimers doesn't seem any worse but he is having some cardiac problems. Always something for old folks.

Our tomato plants expired, lol. We really don't know why. The onions and squash are looking good. Two out of three aint bad.

Heard from daughter Patsy last evening and she was visiting her hubby in the hospital, he will need surgery. We wish him all the best.

The Entertainment Center opened amid reports that there were long lines waiting to get in. It is sure to be a success. Now Deming can have first run movies, the bowling leagues can begin anew and the kiddies will have an arcade and games to occupy their summertime.

Memorial Day weekend

Nice long weekend! We don't have any special plans as of now. I have enough food for the holiday so we probably will do what we usually do and stay home and just enjoy being with our doggies.

Hope you all enjoy the holiday, be sure and put that flag up to show support for all our veterans.

Country Drive

Yesterday we went for a drive in the country. We wanted to see how the crops were faring. The onions should be ready to harvest in about a month, and Alfalfa was ready for the first cutting. We get 4 harvests a year in this area.

It is amazing how many new residents have moved in. Traffic is getting worse by the day and even in the country there is much new construction. The Pit Park has been completed for some time now and really looks good. Our long awaited Entertainment Center should be ready by July 4th and the Sports Complex is still in the planning stages, although the grounds have been ready for some time. I sure wish we would get another grocery store. The parking lots at both stores (Peppers & Walmart) are so crowded and parking is a problem most of the time now. There is an increase in graffiti from practically none to alleys and dumpsters in many neighborhoods. We have more judges and police now too, but it doesn't stop the kids.

I know I sound kind of disenchanted with Deming. Right now I feel like moving, but I am sure I will change my mind when I am in a better state of mind, lol. More coffee, that's what I need!

gopher snake

Funny thing happened this morning. Floyd called me to come see this big snake that Duke had been barking at. It was really big. He said "this thing is as big as your arm", lol. So I went to look and we decided that it was just a gopher snake. Just as soon as we got the dogs out of the pen, he left. I imagine Duke had it scared to death.

Beautiful time of year out here in the Desert. My little garden is doing well. The cactus is blooming and my Ocotillo is green and blooming. For those of you unfamiliar with the Ocotillo, it looks dead most of the year. We had several nests of baby birds who have flown the coop. Nothing to do now, but enjoy the nice warm weather.

Hump Day

Wednesdays are nice, means the week is half over. I had a very nice Mother's Day and hope all the moms out there did too.

Our little vegetable garden is doing just fine. The zucchini plants are poking their heads out of the ground and I have blooms on my tomato plants. They seem to be happy plants.

I've been on Facebook a lot lately. They have interactive games to play and one is "Farm Town". I really enjoy it because you can send people gifts and people can send you gifts, like animals, trees, fences, bldgs., you know "farm" stuff. The little farm animals make noises which are cute. You plant seeds and then harvest your crops for money, lol. I think this App. would be especially fun during the dark, cold days of winter.

Facebook is perfect for families to keep in touch as well as friends. Pictures can be put on there and notices too. I am waiting for granddaughter Allison's wedding pictures to be put on there. Thinking that I am going to go to bed early tonight. I plan to make a list of things I need to do tomorrow and I can only think of one thing,... that is not good. Hopefully I will remember by tomorrow.

TGIF

Tomorrow is my granddaughter Allison's Wedding in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Lots of people will be there and it should be great fun. I am sorry that we cannot be there. She is a lovely girl.

My tomato plants are blooming, Yea! I love tomatoes and the one's at the store have absolutely NO taste. Even the "hothouse" variety have no taste!

It has been hot here and I guess there is a heatwave all out west. The fire in Santa Barbara caused the temps to spike to over 100 at 11:00 pm last night, but thankfully the temps are much cooler today. I don't mind the heat here, since it seems that I have waited all year for it. The cooler keeps our house plenty cool.

Floyd went to the store today and brought home some apple pie. Think I'll have a cup of coffee and some of that pie.:)

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Now we have veggies in the ground.

We have our tomatoes planted, lots of onions (texas white sweet), and some zucchini. We love zucchini and I guess it grows well everywhere. My doggies like it cut into strips, battered, and deep fried. We use to buy it this way at Tommy's in California, yum!

I know I will have too many onions, but so what. Our neighbor Connie has lots of tomato plants and her son Dan told us we can have some of her tomatoes. We should be all right. Maybe I will make some Salsa.

So this morning we went to Walmart and bought fertilizer for our plants, also Rose Food, although our roses look great this year.

I found some donuts that looked yummy - good with coffee. A big Yum.:)

May 1, 2009

I've got men walking around on my roof, they are working on my cooler, very loud! Hope they don't fall off, lol. Our little house has a steep roof, and it is slippery and made of metal!

It was a high of 90F today with a nice little breeze. After a quick trip to the store, I have been watching Westerns all day. Just like a Saturday. Life is hard, lol.

Tomorrow is a good day to pick up some tomato plants. We should have a nice weekend, hope the same is for you.
